Physical Properties:Colorless or yellow deliquescent crystals or liquid; its vapor is green and burns with a peculiar violet flame. Melting point 15°C, boiling point 51°C, relative density (water=1) 1.14, refractive index 1.3826. Soluble in ethanol, ether and water. Chemically very active, it can undergo addition or condensation reactions with ammonia, amides, aldehydes and carboxyl-containing compounds.
Uses:Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for the synthesis of imidazole antifungals and quinoxaline compounds; used as a textile finishing agent in the textile industry; also used as a dye and dye intermediate.
