Physical Properties:White crystalline powder or flaky solid with no obvious odor, easily sublimates at room temperature, and has good chemical stability. Melting point 64°C, boiling point 114.5°C, density 1.17 g/cm³ (at 65°C), molecular weight 90.08. Slightly soluble in cold water, readily soluble in hot water, ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, benzene and most organic solvents. Can depolymerize to formaldehyde under acidic conditions.
Uses:Primarily used as a raw material for producing polyoxymethylene (POM) resin and as an efficient substitute for formaldehyde in synthesis. Applied in the pharmaceutical and pesticide industries for preparing intermediates of antibiotics, vitamins, herbicides and insecticides. Also used in synthesizing fine chemicals such as hexamethylenetetramine, pentaerythritol and trimethylolpropane, and can serve as a special solvent and laboratory organic synthesis reagent.
