The aqueous solution is yellow; decomposes to silicic acid and molybdates upon contact with bases or ammonia water.
Uses:Used in quantitative colorimetric analysis; an important color-developing agent for the determination of silicon, molybdenum and other elements. It also serves as an acid catalyst in organic synthesis. Additionally, it is used in the preparation of polyoxometalate-type functional materials.
