Physical Properties:White to off-white sterile lyophilized powder. It is a glycoprotein hormone, readily soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol, acetone and other organic solvents. The isoelectric point is approximately 4.5; it is labile to heat, acids and alkalis. The intact molecule contains about 165 amino acid residues plus four glycan chains, with a total molecular weight of approximately 30.4–34.0 kDa and a protein moiety of approximately 18.2 kDa.
Uses:It stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow and promotes erythropoiesis. Clinically, it is mainly used for the treatment of renal anemia, anemia of chronic disease, and chemotherapy-induced anemia, and can also be used as an alternative to reduce allogeneic transfusion in the perioperative period.
