Physical Properties:It is a colorless gas at normal temperature and pressure with a slight ether-like odor and is easily liquefied. Boiling point: -24.9 ℃, melting point: -141.5 ℃, relative density (air=1) 1.61, liquid relative density 0.661 g/cm³ (20 ℃). Slightly soluble in water (7.3 g/100 mL at 20 ℃), easily soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone and other organic solvents. Chemically stable, no reaction with acids or alkalis at room temperature, non-corrosive; flammable, explosion limit 3.4%~27.0% (by volume), combustion products are carbon dioxide and water, environmentally friendly.
Uses:Used as a clean fuel, it can replace liquefied petroleum gas and diesel for residential stoves, industrial boilers, engines and fuel cells. As a chemical feedstock, it is used to synthesize methanol, formaldehyde, methyl acetate, light olefins, etc., and can serve as a methylating agent to prepare pharmaceutical intermediates, dyes and fragrances.
