Physical Properties:Light yellow to yellow oily liquid with a strong saffron-like characteristic odor, woody, spicy, medicinal and powdery notes; at extremely low concentrations it presents a soft sweet aroma. Density (25°C): 0.960–0.980 g/mL; refractive index (20°C): 1.520–1.530; boiling point: 172°C at atmospheric pressure, 70°C/1 mmHg; flash point: 80.4°C. Insoluble in water, readily soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, propylene glycol and vegetable oils. Uses:Mainly used as a food flavoring agent, added in trace amounts to premium food flavors such as saffron, rum, fig, tea and tobacco to impart the characteristic natural saffron aroma and enhance flavor complexity.
