Physical Properties:White crystalline or amorphous powder, odorless and tasteless, stable in air. Relative density approximately 2.1. Slightly soluble in water, aqueous solution is alkaline; solubility in water is 1.02% at 15°C. Easily soluble in acids and ammonium salt solutions; decomposes with liberation of carbon dioxide upon contact with dilute acids. Decomposes above 300°C to produce water, carbon dioxide, and magnesium oxide.
Uses:Used as a reinforcing agent and filler in the rubber industry, and as a heat-insulating and high-temperature-resistant fireproof insulation material. It is also used in the manufacture of glass products, enamel and ceramic surface brightening agents, as well as magnesium salts, pigments, paints, and daily cosmetics. Additionally, it is applied in shipbuilding and boiler manufacturing.
