Relative density 4.93 (25°C), melting point 113.5°C, boiling point 184.3°C. Slightly soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide and other organic solvents; solubility increases significantly in aqueous potassium iodide solution.
Uses:Used in pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries as an important raw material for the synthesis of iodides, iodates, disinfectants, X-ray contrast agents and analytical reagents; also used in the production of organic iodine compounds, iodophors, dyes and photographic materials.
