Physical Properties:Melting point 160–163°C. Water solubility increases with pH: 1, 3, 110, and 11000 mg/L at pH 3, 5, 7, and 9, respectively, at 25°C. Hydrolysis half-life (DT50) in water at 25°C is 3.7 days (pH 5), 32 days (pH 7), and 36 days (pH 9). Acute oral LD50 for rats is >5000 mg/kg, acute dermal LD50 for rabbits is >2000 mg/kg. Non-irritating to rabbit eyes, non-sensitizing to guinea pig skin, and negative in Ames test.
Uses:This product is a sulfonylurea herbicide that inhibits plant acetolactate synthase (ALS), blocking branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis and thereby affecting cell division and growth. It is used in sugar beet fields to effectively control a wide range of broadleaf weeds and grasses, and is a highly safe post-emergence herbicide. Even at twice the recommended rate, it remains very safe to sugar beets. The recommended application rate is 10–25 g a.i./ha with the addition of an appropriate surfactant or vegetable oil to enhance activity.
