Physical Properties:Dark blue powder or lumpy crystal, odorless, almost insoluble in water, ethanol and ether; soluble in acids, oxalic acid and alkali solutions. Decomposes at high temperatures releasing hydrogen cyanide gas. Excellent tinting strength and hiding power, good light fastness, and relatively stable to heat.
Uses:Used as a blue pigment widely applied in paints, inks, artist colors, crayons, and plastics. In analytical chemistry, it serves as a precipitating agent and indicator. In medicine, Prussian Blue is used to treat thallium and radioactive cesium poisoning by promoting their excretion through the gastrointestinal tract. It is also used as a catalyst and for the preparation of ferrocyanides.
