Physical Properties:Lemon-yellow monoclinic crystals or powder with a density of approximately 1.85 g/cm³. Readily soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and diethyl ether. Loses all water of crystallization at about 70°C and decomposes upon further heating. Chemically stable in air at room temperature; decomposes upon contact with acids, releasing toxic hydrogen cyanide gas.
Uses:Mainly used in the production of the pigment Prussian blue, and also as a surface carburizing agent for steel, a complexing agent in electroplating, and an analytical chemical reagent. It is the primary raw material for synthesizing potassium ferricyanide (red prussiate of potash) and can be used as an anti-caking agent (E536) in the food industry.
