Physical Properties:Colorless needle-like crystals, readily deliquescent. Soluble in water and alcohol, with strongly basic aqueous solution. Reacts with acids to release hydrogen sulfide, and decomposes at its melting point (about 350°C) releasing hydrogen sulfide. Has a bitter taste.
Uses:Used in the dye industry for synthesizing organic intermediates and preparing auxiliaries for sulfur dyes; in the leather industry for depilating and tanning raw hides; in the fertilizer industry for removing monomeric sulfur from activated carbon desulfurizers; in the mining industry for copper ore beneficiation; also used in artificial fiber production, wastewater treatment, and as a raw material for producing ammonium sulfide and pesticide intermediate such as ethyl mercaptan.
