Physical Properties:Dark red to black lustrous powder; soluble in hot water and ethanol, slightly soluble in cold water, insoluble in most organic solvents. Melting point >300°C (decomposition). In the pH 8-10 range it appears blue and forms wine-red complexes with calcium and magnesium ions.
Uses:Used as a complexometric indicator, primarily for the determination of calcium and magnesium ions by EDTA titration. Also used as a colorimetric reagent for metal ion detection in analytical testing.
