Melting point is approximately 35°C (34-36°C), boiling point approximately 226°C, and relative density about 1.24 g/cm³ at 25°C. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in common organic solvents such as ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate. It is relatively stable to light and heat but reacts readily with strong oxidizing agents.
Uses:It is mainly used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and fine chemicals, widely applied in the synthesis of 2-methyl-3-aminopyridine and its derivatives. The resulting aminopyridine compounds are key intermediates in the preparation of pyridine carboxamide drugs, anticonvulsants and agrochemically active molecules, and are also used in dyes, catalyst ligands and advanced organic synthesis.
