Physical Properties:White to off-white crystalline powder, odorless. Freely soluble in chloroform, soluble in methanol, sparingly soluble in ethanol, practically insoluble in water. Specific rotation approx. -140° (c=0.5, methanol). Melting with decomposition at approx. 155°C.
Uses:This product is a proton pump inhibitor and the magnesium salt of the S-isomer of omeprazole. It is mainly used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis, and in combination with antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori eradication. It potently reduces basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting H+/K+-ATPase in gastric parietal cells.
