Physical Properties:White to yellowish-white crystalline powder with a characteristic odor; freely soluble in ethanol, soluble in ether, very slightly soluble in water. Melting point 132-135°C, boiling point 228°C (decomposes), relative density approx. 1.204, flash point 127°C. Stable to heat and stable when sealed; in moist air it tends to absorb moisture and oxidize, causing discoloration.
Uses:Sorbic acid is an efficient and safe acidic preservative and antimycotic agent, widely used in food, beverages, pickled vegetables, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agricultural products, and feed. It effectively inhibits the growth and reproduction of molds, yeasts, and aerobic bacteria, extending shelf life while preserving the original flavor of food. As an unsaturated acid, it is also applied in resins, fragrances, and rubber industries.
