Physical Properties:Pale yellowish-green crystalline powder, molecular weight 247.97. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, insoluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. The aqueous solution is weakly acidic. It is relatively stable in dry air; upon prolonged exposure to moist air or light, the ferrous ion is slowly oxidized to the ferric state, causing the color to darken. It decomposes at approximately 150°C.
Uses:Mainly used as an iron nutritional fortifier in food, health products and pharmaceuticals to supplement the iron required by the human body and to help prevent and improve iron-deficiency anemia. It is also used as a feed additive to promote growth and development in animals, and can be used as a chemical reagent in laboratories.
