Physical Properties:Dark blue powder, soluble in water giving a blue transparent solution, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone and chloroform. It turns deep blue in concentrated sulfuric acid and becomes blue after dilution; it shows strong affinity for cellulose fibers.
Uses:Mainly used for dyeing and printing of cotton, viscose and other cellulose fibers, as well as dyeing of silk, linen, nylon and other fibers, and coloring of paper, leather and pulp. It is also used for biological staining, motion picture film tinting and ink preparation, often used in combination with other direct dyes for shade matching.
