- 蓝色粉末，能溶于热苯胺，几乎不溶于水和乙醇。在浓硫酸中呈黄绿色，稀释后为蓝色沉淀；在浓硝酸中呈靛红色，后变为红光黄色。不溶于水、酸、碱，在碱性保险粉还原液中呈淡黄色，在酸性液中无色。需经还原为靛白（溶于碱液）后用于染色，氧化后重新生成靛蓝。

Physical Properties:Blue powder, soluble in hot aniline, almost insoluble in water and ethanol. Shows yellow-green color in concentrated sulfuric acid, turning to blue precipitate upon dilution; in concentrated nitric acid it turns indigo red and then red-yellow. Insoluble in water, acids and alkalis. In alkaline sodium hydrosulfite reducing solution it appears light yellow, colorless in acidic solution. It must be reduced to leuco-indigo (soluble in alkali) for dyeing, then re-oxidized in air to regenerate indigo.
Uses:Mainly used for dyeing cotton fabric and cotton yarn, such as warp yarn dyeing for denim. It can also dye wool and silk, and is used in carpets and handicrafts. It is also used to prepare food colors and organic pigments; indigo carmine and brominated indigo are its derivatives.
