Freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, acetone and other organic solvents, insoluble in benzene and chloroform. Exhibits typical properties of organophosphonic acid compounds, weakly acidic, stable under alkaline conditions, and capable of forming chelates with metal ions.
Uses:As a plant growth regulator, it is mainly used for sugarcane ripening and sugar enhancement, significantly increasing sucrose content in sugarcane. It can also be used as a herbicide for controlling annual weeds on non-cultivated land. Additionally, it serves as an organic synthesis intermediate for the preparation of other phosphonic acid compounds.
