Gradually loses water of crystallization when heated above 100°C, and releases ammonia gas upon decomposition at high temperatures. Relative density approximately 1.62 (anhydrous), melting point approximately 190°C (decomposition).
Uses:Used as a general-purpose reagent in analytical chemistry for preparing buffer solutions and precipitating metal ions. Serves as a slow-release nitrogen-phosphorus compound fertilizer in agriculture. Also employed as a flame retardant for wood, paper, and textiles, and as a precursor for manufacturing other phosphate products.
