Physical Properties:Dark red or reddish-brown uniform powder. Readily soluble in water giving an orange-red solution, slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone, insoluble in benzene, chloroform and other organic solvents. Exhibits typical direct dye staining characteristics.
Uses:Mainly used in biological staining, especially suitable for the Sirius Red-picric acid method to visualize collagen fibers; also used as a direct dye for dyeing cotton, flax, viscose and other cellulosic fibers.
