Physical Properties:White to yellowish powder, odorless and tasteless, hygroscopic. Its sodium salt is readily soluble in water forming a clear viscous colloid, insoluble in ethanol and other organic solvents; the aqueous solution is stable under neutral or alkaline conditions and may precipitate upon contact with acids or metal salts.
Uses:Mainly used as thickener, stabilizer, suspending agent and binder, widely used in food, pharmaceutical, daily chemical, textile, papermaking and oil drilling industries. In food, it improves mouthfeel and texture; in pharmaceutical formulations, it is used as tablet disintegrant and binder.
