The pure compound melts at approximately 98°C, and the aqueous solution boils at about 100°C with a relative density of approximately 1.33 g/cm³ at 20°C. The flash point is above 100°C. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol and diethyl ether, and slightly soluble in benzene.
Uses:It is used as a raw material for the production of methyl vanillin and ethyl vanillin in the flavor industry. In the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as a key intermediate for the synthesis of drugs such as atenolol, D-(-)-p-hydroxyphenylglycine and amoxicillin, as well as for acetophenone and amino acid derivatives. It is also employed as an intermediate in varnishes, dyes, plastics, agrochemicals and daily chemical products.
