Physical Properties:Colorless crystals; melting point 142-144°C (decomposes). Solubility (20-25°C): water 4 g/L; acetone 300 g/L; hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons <20 g/L; methanol 290 g/L. The imino group is acidic (pKa 4.82) and forms salts. Stable in boiling water for >6 h; stability >4 years at pH 8.5 (room temperature).
Uses:Cell division inhibitor with systemic activity, absorbed through plant leaves, stems and roots. Selectively controls annual and perennial grass weeds and broadleaf weeds in spinach, alfalfa, ornamentals, sugarcane, banana, coffee, tea, cocoa, coconut, rubber and other crops. It is also used to control wild oats in flax, dock in grassland, orchards, shrubs and non-crop areas, and bracken in turf, non-crop areas and forests. Application rate ranges from 1 to 10 kg/ha depending on the crop.
