Soluble in water, acetonitrile, ethanol and other polar solvents; almost insoluble in diethyl ether, toluene and other nonpolar solvents. Approximate molecular weight 361.66. Acts as a Lewis acid with good catalytic activity; relatively stable in dry air, but should be stored sealed and protected from moisture.
Uses:Used as a Lewis acid catalyst in organic synthesis, catalyzing condensation, cyclization, rearrangement and coupling reactions. Also serves as a mild Lewis acid and triflate transfer reagent.
