Physical Properties:Colorless transparent glassy solid, hygroscopic, soluble in water and ethanol, aqueous solution is strongly acidic. Slowly hydrolyzes to orthophosphoric acid upon prolonged storage or heating. Density approximately 2.2 g/cm³, melting point approximately 21°C (varies with degree of polymerization), decomposes when heated to higher temperatures.
Uses:Used as a dehydrating agent, catalyst and condensing agent, widely applied in organic synthesis and preparation of phosphate esters. Also used as an analytical reagent for protein determination, blood analysis, etc. Additionally used in manufacturing phosphates and as an acidic desiccant in chemical experiments.
