Physical Properties:White to light yellow crystalline or low melting solid; melting point approx. 40-44°C; readily soluble in methanol, ethanol, dichloromethane and other organic solvents; slowly decomposes upon exposure to water or moist air releasing hydrogen; relatively stable in air, but should be stored sealed and dry.
Uses:Used as a mild reducing agent, widely applied in reductive amination reactions to convert aldehydes/ketones with amines into amines; also used for selective reduction of carboxylic acids, amides and other functional groups. Compared with sodium cyanoborohydride, it has lower toxicity and easier workup.
