Physical Properties:Light yellow to light brown liquid with a characteristic odor. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, benzene and other organic solvents. Relative density is approximately 1.28, boiling point is about 110-115°C at 0.1 mmHg, flash point is about 80°C. It is easily decomposed by heat and should be stored sealed and protected from light.
Uses:Mainly used as an organic synthesis intermediate for preparing xanthate derivatives. Used as a vulcanization accelerator in the rubber industry, as a collector in mineral flotation, and also in the synthesis of pesticides and pharmaceuticals.
