Practically insoluble in water and ethanol; readily soluble in dilute acids with release of carbon dioxide; soluble in ammonium salt solutions. Stable in air.
Uses:Used to manufacture cadmium salts, cadmium pigments such as cadmium yellow, and colorants for glass and ceramics. Serves as an auxiliary heat stabilizer for plastics such as PVC, a catalyst in organic synthesis, and a component of electroplating baths; also applicable in the preparation of cadmium-based semiconductors and in analytical chemistry.
