It is almost insoluble in water but dispersible in water; easily soluble in ethanol, isopropanol, mineral oil and most organic solvents. Relative density approx. 0.90, flash point >100 °C, HLB value approx. 4-5; it is a lipophilic nonionic surfactant.
Uses:Used as an emulsifier in chemical fiber and textile spinning oil formulations, effectively reducing surface tension and stabilizing emulsions; also used in household and industrial detergents and metal cleaners to provide wetting, emulsifying and detergency. Owing to its low HLB value, it is often used as a co-emulsifier for W/O emulsions.
