Physical Properties:White to off-white crystalline powder, melting point approximately 168-172°C. Soluble in hot water, ethanol and ethyl acetate; slightly soluble in ether; almost insoluble in benzene and petroleum ether. Stable in air but discolors upon exposure to light.
Uses:Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenging activities, suitable for the synthesis of ferulic acid derivatives and drug formulations. Also employed as a food additive and cosmetic ingredient for preservative and whitening-enhancing effects.
