Melting point approximately 205 °C (decomposes).
Uses:Gentian violet is an excellent basic dye widely used in cytology, histology, and bacteriology for biological staining, such as nuclear staining, demonstration of chromosome centrioles, and staining of starch, fibrin, and neuroglia. It is a mixture of crystal violet and methyl violet and can be used interchangeably with crystal violet; the main component of medicinal purplish solution is methyl violet, which can replace gentian violet and crystal violet when necessary.
