It is a colorless liquid with a melting point of about -69.5°C and a boiling point of about 23°C, with a low flash point and high volatility. It is soluble in water, ethanol, and diethyl ether, and usually exists in dilute low-temperature solutions or as a polymer.
Uses:Vinyl alcohol is mainly used for producing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is further processed into PVA fibers, films, adhesives, and coatings. It also serves as an organic synthesis intermediate for manufacturing polyvinyl acetate and vinyl ester resins, and finds applications in emulsifiers and thickeners.
