Physical Properties:White or light brown acicular crystals or powder. Melting point 235-240°C (decomposition). Loses crystal water when heated to 100-120°C, and releases carbon dioxide above 200°C to form pyrogallol. Soluble in hot water, ether, ethanol, acetone and glycerol; slightly soluble in cold water; insoluble in benzene and chloroform.
Uses:Used in the manufacture of dyes, pyrotechnic stabilizers, blue-black ink and whistle compositions; used as a plant growth regulator, UV absorber and flame retardant; also used in leather tanning, photographic developer and as an analytical reagent.
