Physical Properties:Yellow to orange-yellow powder. Soluble in water producing a yellow solution, slightly soluble in ethanol and benzene, insoluble in ether. Turns violet-red in concentrated sulfuric acid, and a yellow precipitate forms upon dilution. No obvious melting point; decomposes at approximately 120°C when heated.
Uses:Primarily used for dyeing protein fibers such as wool and silk, as well as for coloring paper and leather. In analytical chemistry, it serves as a pH indicator with a color transition from red to yellow in the range of pH 1.2-2.3. It is also used in biological staining and as a dye intermediate for synthesizing other azo dyes.
