Physical Properties:White or off-white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol, ether and acetone. Unstable to acid, readily decomposed by alkali or oxidants, and deteriorates on heating.
Uses:Primarily used for treating infections caused by penicillin-sensitive Gram-positive bacteria, such as pneumonia, tonsillitis, scarlet fever, septicemia, and endocarditis. Also used for prophylaxis of rheumatic fever recurrence and infective endocarditis.
