Physical Properties:White or light-yellow powder, odorless. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and toluene. It has excellent thermal and chemical stability, is not readily self-ignitable, and is safer than red phosphorus. At high temperatures it decomposes to release active phosphorus-containing species that effectively absorb residual oxygen, water vapor, and other harmful gases inside lamps.
Uses:Mainly used as a lamp getter, replacing red phosphorus in the manufacture of internally-striped fluorescent lamps and gas-filled bulbs. It effectively removes residual active gases inside the lamp, improving tube lifetime and brightness stability. It can also be used as a doping source material for semiconductors.
