Slightly soluble in water, miscible with most organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers and ketones. Flammable, easily burns in presence of open flames or high heat.
Uses:Dimethyl carbonate is a green organic synthesis intermediate, widely used as a methylating agent and carbonylating agent to replace highly toxic dimethyl sulfate and phosgene. It is used in the synthesis of polycarbonates, isocyanates, carbamates and pharmaceutical intermediates. It also serves as a low-toxicity environmentally friendly solvent in coatings, inks, lithium battery electrolytes, and as an excellent anti-knock additive for gasoline.
