Physical Properties:Black or dark gray hard solid petroleum product with metallic luster and porosity, composed of granular, columnar, or needle-like carbon bodies formed by microcrystalline graphite. Carbon content 90-97%, hydrogen content 1.5-8%, also containing small amounts of nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur, and metal compounds. Ash content no more than 0.5%, volatile matter about 11%, low calorific value about 1.5-2 times that of coal, with quality close to anthracite.
Uses:Mainly used for producing graphite electrodes, carbon paste products, emery, food-grade phosphorus industry, metallurgical industry, and calcium carbide, among which graphite electrodes are the most widely applied. Raw coke without calcination can be directly used as the main material for calcium carbide, for producing silicon carbide and boron carbide as abrasive materials, or as blast furnace coke in metallurgy and dense coke for foundry.
