Physical Properties:Light yellow to dark brown transparent liquid with a strong pyridine-like odor and weak basicity. Soluble in water and readily soluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. Relative density is about 0.95-0.98 at 20°C, boiling range is approximately 115-160°C, and flash point is about 21°C (closed cup). It reacts with acids to form pyridinium salts.
Uses:Mainly used as an organic synthesis intermediate, solvent and acid-binding agent in acidic reactions, for the preparation of pyridine derivatives, quaternary ammonium salts, surfactants, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, rubber additives and dyes. It is also used as a curing accelerator in resin and coating production.
