It is also used in the feed industry to produce sodium selenite and as a raw material for selenium-containing foliar fertilizer in agriculture. In the chemical industry, it serves as an oxidizing agent and catalyst for organic synthesis, and is used to produce high-purity selenium and other selenium compounds, as well as for analytical purposes such as precipitating zirconium and hafnium and detecting alkaloids.
