Miscible with water in all proportions, soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol and diethyl ether, and exhibits excellent solubility for oils, inorganic salts, organic compounds, and polymers. High-purity acetonitrile shows no or only very weak absorption in the near-UV region of 200nm-400nm.
Uses:Widely used as a mobile phase solvent in analytical instruments such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
