Slightly soluble in water; soluble in phenols, aldehydes, ketones, glacial acetic acid, triethyl phosphate, ethyl acetoacetate, and cyclohexylamine; miscible with ethanol, diethyl ether, and N,N-dimethylformamide. Stable at ordinary temperatures in the absence of moisture; prolonged contact with water leads to slow decomposition releasing hydrogen chloride.
