Boiling point: 62-65°C at atmospheric pressure; melting point: -0.5°C; density: 0.80-0.82 g/cm³ at 20°C; flash point: -20°C; vapor pressure: 18.3 kPa at 20°C. Slightly soluble in water; readily soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene and other organic solvents. Easily oxidized to disulfides in air; store sealed and protected from light.
Uses:Widely used as an odorant for natural gas and LPG; due to its extremely low olfactory threshold (0.001 ppm), it is added to odorless fuel gas for leak warning, typically at 8-20 mg/m³ (per GB 17820-2018). Used as an organic synthesis intermediate for producing tert-butyl sulfide and pharmaceutical/pesticide intermediates, and as a radical reaction regulator. It is also used as a fuel and lubricant additive to improve anti-knock or extreme-pressure performance, and as a chemical analytical reagent and special fragrance component.
