Physical Properties:White crystalline powder, odorless, slightly deliquescent. Freely soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in liquid ammonia. Melting point about 90°C, density about 1.49 g/cm³, molecular weight about 105.99. Strong reducing agent, decomposes above 260°C. Evaporation of its solution under normal pressure may cause explosion, while it is relatively stable under reduced pressure.
Uses:Used in electroless nickel plating to metallize non-metal surfaces such as plastics, ceramics, and glass. As a strong reducing agent, it can reduce metal salts such as gold, silver, nickel, and chromium to metallic states. Also used for food preservation and antisepsis, preparation of industrial anticorrosives, oilfield scale inhibitors, boiler water additives, as well as an antioxidant, stabilizer, and dispersant.
