It hydrolyzes violently in water to form phosphorous acid and hydrogen chloride, releasing heat. Soluble in benzene, ether, chloroform, carbon disulfide and other organic solvents.
Uses:Mainly used in the manufacture of organophosphorus pesticides, plasticizers, flame retardants, dyes, pharmaceutical intermediates and phosphorus compounds such as phosphorus oxychloride. Also used as a catalyst and chlorinating agent.
