Physical Properties:Pale blue-green monoclinic crystals, odorless, saline taste, freely soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol. It effloresces in dry air and is oxidized to a yellowish-brown color in moist air. It loses part of its crystal water at 64°C and becomes anhydrous at 300°C. Density is approximately 1.897 g/cm³, melting point is 64°C (loss of water).
Uses:Used for flocculation and purification of water and removal of phosphates from industrial wastewater to prevent eutrophication. Widely used as a reducing agent, mainly to reduce chromates in cement. In medicine, it is used to treat iron deficiency anemia and also as a local astringent and blood tonic. In agriculture, it is used as an iron fertilizer to adjust soil pH, promote chlorophyll formation, prevent chlorosis caused by iron deficiency, and control diseases such as wheat bunt and fruit tree rot.
