Relative density 1.64, melting point approximately 94.5°C; loses all water of crystallization when heated to 120°C. Freely soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol; aqueous solution is acidic.
Uses:Used in the production of high-purity alumina, ruby and sapphire crystals, and artificial gemstones; employed as an analytical reagent, water purifying agent, and mordant. In the food industry, it is used as a leavening agent and firming/crisping agent, including baking powder processing, fried food preparation, jellyfish pickling, and fruit/vegetable preservation and color protection. It is also applied in rubber processing, leather making, detergent manufacturing, feed processing, and pencil production.
