Physical Properties:A colorless gas with a pungent odor at room temperature and pressure; molecular weight 32.12, melting point approximately -185°C, boiling point approximately -112°C; spontaneously flammable in air and forms explosive mixtures with air or halogens; slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, benzene and other organic solvents. Silane can still ignite at concentrations of 2% in argon, 2.5% in nitrogen, and 1% in hydrogen; it is non-flammable below 1%, spontaneously flammable above 3%, and may burn between 1% and 3%.
Uses:Used for epitaxial growth of silicon and as raw material for preparing polysilicon, silicon oxide, silicon nitride and other materials; it is an important material for manufacturing solar cells, optical fibers and colored glass; widely applied in chemical vapor deposition processes.
